Guild of Boston Artists is established.

Founded by Frank Benson, Anna Coleman Ladd, Joseph DeCamp, William McGregor Paxton, Edmund Tarbell, and others, the organization holds its first exhibition at its new headquarters at 162 Newbury Street. The group’s purpose is to promote “the highest standards of professionalism” and provide gallery space for traditional and representational painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Tarbell is its first president. The organization continues today.
